Splinterlands officially announces the release date for Phase 1.5 of their Land-based gameplay. While this initial launch is just a glimpse into their grander plans, landowners can soon stake cards to their plots, kickstarting the harvest of Grain, SPS tokens, and research points. Phase 1.5 of the Secret of Praetoria expansion to the Splinterlands game is currently scheduled to be released on Tuesday, November 14th, 2023.
What to Expect in the 1.5 Release
Players can now stake Dark Energy Crystals and cards to their land plots, turning them into productive workers harvesting Grain, SPS tokens, and accumulating research points for a future undisclosed revelation.
What’s Missing in the Initial Release?
A lot of features that are absent from this first release will be added in the upcoming months. This covers the following: the DEC rental market; trading Grain internally; using Soulbound cards on Land; combining Totem fragments; using rented cards on Land; and Land “surfing.” The last point is particularly important because it would enable players without land ownership to work on unoccupied plots. Everyone could play the Land game — not just landowners — with this feature. Hopefully, they’ll give it top priority to implement land surfing as soon as possible.
Phase 2 Anticipations
Phase 2 of the Land expansion will include 50 distinct resources and 30 distinct building types, bringing even more changes. All of which will combine into a complex crafting system in Phase 3 to produce Spell and Item cards. According to the Splinterlands team, a whitepaper detailing their detailed plans for Phase 2 will be released soon.
Phase 1.5 acts as an interim phase, allowing players to experiment with a subset of land and resource management before the full release of Phase 2, expected next year. Over 30 building types and 50 resources will be at players’ disposal, forming the foundation for the crafting of Item and Spell cards in Phase 3.
Land Gameplay Basics
Land is digital property that is situated inside Praetoria, a hidden continent that players on Splinterlands explore. You can buy unclaimed land from other users on AtomicHub, Hive Engine, or the Non-Card Market. For claimed land, you can buy them in Praetoria’s For Sale section.
In Phase 1.5, in-game resources are produced on land. Players will be able to produce a small amount of the resources that will eventually be available within Praetoria by staking worker cards and DEC tokens on their land plots. This will begin in Phase 2. Land plots can generate SPS tokens which will replace the current airdrop for land owners, and conduct research for the Secrets of Praetoria during this initial phase of implementation. Grain is used to feed the workers. The research points are part of a global project that will not be fully unlocked until later.
Totems and Titles can also be staked for additional bonuses. Workers, fueled by Grain, are assigned instantly but removal takes three days. Power Sources, essential for plots, can be bought with DEC or assigned Runi.
