Franck Muller, a haute horlogerie based in Switzerland, recently unveiled its new limited-edition luxury timepiece. It merges the rich legacy of mechanical watchmaking and burgeoning crypto culture, rolling up performance, precision, and innovation in one product.
Its maker refers to the revolutionary timepiece as “a symbol of the next era in luxury-phygital, functional, and future-ready.”
Features of the New Franck Muller Web3 Timepiece
The watch, designed for buyers who want to flex their involvement in Web3, allows users to integrate their Solana (SOL) wallet. Each piece is embedded with a unique QR code linked to the owner’s wallet address.
The feature allows users seamless access to their SOL assets on the go for quick transactions, real-time portfolio monitoring, immediate proof of ownership, or other potential uses that the luxury brand has yet to reveal. Franck Muller claimed that owners of its new watch are also entitled to early access, exclusive events, and on-chain rewards. However, it has yet to elaborate on the specific details of these perks.
The production of watches is limited to 1,111 samples. They are now up for grabs via Franck Muller’s official website.
Estimated Growth of Phygital Solutions
Phygital products are rapidly gaining ground in the market. They combine physical and digital features, transcending their limits in delivering consumer experiences, interaction, and engagement. They usually include technologies like augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI).
Virtue Market Research estimates a further increase in the integration of these technologies into more products and business solutions going forward. According to its studies, 90% of consumers are already switching to phygital shopping experiences. It also projects that these products could add 35% customer engagement and generate 40% brand loyalty for companies.
The group forecasts an increase in the adoption and application of phygital products at an 11% (Compound Annual Growth Rate) CAGR between 2024 and 2030. The most significant contributors to its growth are the retail, healthcare, entertainment, education, real estate, and hospitality sectors. In terms of market share, North America leads in utility and demand, followed by the Asia-Pacific and European regions.
Controversies in the Integration of a Solana Crypto Wallet in a Luxury Timepiece
Franck Muller’s Web3 timepiece is not without its critics, though. Many argue that putting a crypto wallet in a watch only makes the theft of digital assets easier.
Luxury watches are also among the favorite and easiest targets for thieves. This factor raises the risk of their loss exponentially.
