- Strategy bought 950 Bitcoin for $75.7 million and repurchased $174 million in STRC shares over the week.
- Executive Chairman Michael Saylor remains bullish on BTC despite the CLARITY Act’s failure in a Senate cloture vote.
Strategy (MSTR) has again greenlit another multimillion-dollar Bitcoin (BTC) purchase after a brief pause in its accumulation. It follows Executive Chair Michael Saylor’s post during the weekend that hinted at the move.
Strategy’s Current Bitcoin Holdings
“A little more orange,” said Saylor on X last Sunday. It included a chart showing Strategy’s historical Bitcoin purchases since August 2020. Most of the time, these posts signal a major BTC acquisition announcement on Mondays.
On Monday, Strategy met public expectations by revealing it has indeed secured 950 BTC over the past week. The haul came with a price tag of $75.7 million at an average cost of $79,670 per coin.
With the latest developments, the company now has 864,000 BTC in its portfolio, accounting for approximately 4.3% of Bitcoin’s 20.09 million circulating supply. It remains the largest Bitcoin holder among publicly traded companies, controlling more than 62% of all the BTC held by digital asset treasury (DAT) entities per CoinMarketCap data.
Strategy reflects an aggregate purchase price of roughly $63.8 billion in Bitcoin. The figures translate to $75,416 per BTC.
STRC Repurchase
In a major flex, Strategy also bought back shares of the Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock (STRC). Over the same period, it regained 1.77 million shares for $174 million in line with its digital credit securities repurchase program.
Strategy funded the transactions without diluting MSTR Class A Common Stock or selling any BTC. Meanwhile, the company noted that an aggregate purchase price of $875.1 million for its preferred stock remains available under its digital credit scheme. Additionally, an aggregate purchase price of $1 billion for MSTR Stock remains available under the common stock repurchase program.
After the BTC purchase and STRC repurchase, Strategy still maintains a USD Reserve of $5.04 billion and USD Cash of $1.05 billion. For context, the former provides USD liquidity for stock dividends and debt interest payments. The latter is exclusive to Bitcoin treasury purposes.
Bullish Despite the CLARITY Act’s Failure
Saylor is confident that the digital asset industry is better off moving forward than forcibly accepting the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act compromise. He said the status quo is preferable, with the White House, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Treasury, and banking regulators at the helm of a supportive regulatory regime.
Furthermore, despite the botched Senate cloture vote on the CLARITY Act, Saylor urged industry stakeholders to keep innovating and bringing “better financial products into people’s hands.” He argued that they should not lose focus on their goal of providing lower costs, easier access, useful services, and greater financial freedom for everyone.
“Legal certainty matters. So does the freedom to compete,” Saylor stated. “A law can make a restriction durable just as easily as it can make a right durable. Before celebrating permanence, we should examine what we are making permanent.”
