- The US SEC has approved the conversion of the Grayscale Digital Large Cap Fund into a basket ETF comprised of BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL, and ADA.
- NYSE Arca has yet to announce the launch of the new investment product.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) just approved the conversion of the Grayscale Digital Large Cap (GDLC) Fund into an exchange-traded fund (ETF). The product features a basket of investment products based on the top market-cap cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), XRP, Solana (SOL), and Cardano (ADA).

US SEC Orders Acceleration Of Approval for the New Grayscale Basket ETF
“IT IS THEREFORE ORDERED, pursuant to Section 19(b)(2) of the Exchange Act, that the proposed rule change (SR-NYSEARCA-2024-87), as modified by Amendment No. 1, be, and hereby is, approved on an accelerated basis. For the Commission, by the Division of Trading and Markets, pursuant to delegated authority,” read the document signed by Sherry Haywood, Assistant Secretary of the agency.
The SEC’s favorable decision allows NYSE Arca to list the converted GLDC as an ETF soon. The public expects the new Grayscale ETF to adopt a new name to reflect its offerings better. The filings suggest that it may integrate the “CoinDesk 5 Index” or “CD5” into its name to emphasize that its issuer derived its composition based on the top-performing crypto assets under the CoinDesk benchmark.
Heightened Optimism on Other Pending Altcoin ETFs
The regulator’s move has triggered optimism over the other pending exchange-traded products (ETP) based on the cryptos featured in Grayscale’s new basket ETF. The bullish evaluations of Bloomberg Intelligence analysts Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart further reinforce this.
Before the SEC’s decision, the ETF experts accurately predicted the high approval odds, with a 95% rating, for the conversion of the GDLC Fund into an ETF. Their revised forecast also gave the same rate of chances to the pending Litecoin (LTC), SOL, and XRP ETFs due in October.

Performance of Grayscale’s Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs
Grayscale currently issues two types of crypto ETFs in the US market: Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs. Each has been separated into two products to set apart their converted versions from the new versions.
The asset manager offers the converted GBTC and the new BTC for its Bitcoin ETFs. Meanwhile, it maintains the converted ETHE and the new ETH products for its Ethereum ETFs.
Grayscale’s converted ETPs have both experienced massive outflows since their launch as ETFs. GBTC currently displays a negative $23.249 billion net inflow, while the outflows in ETHE have outperformed the inflows by $4.304 billion as of writing.
On the other hand, BTC presently reflects a positive net inflow of $1.43 billion, while ETHE has a net inflow of $741.7 million.
