Ripple Full MiCA License

  • Ripple secured its full CASP license in Luxembourg, allowing it to expand the reach of its products and services across MiCA-regulated countries.

Leading fintech company specializing in institutional blockchain infrastructure, Ripple, has officially secured its full Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license from Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF). It comes just a month after the announcement of its preliminary approval in June.

Together with its Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license, Ripple’s CASP license enables it to operate across jurisdictions requiring compliance with the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) Regulations. MiCA’s passporting rules allow the company to offer its cross-border payment, custody, and other blockchain-powered institutional solutions in 30 countries of the European Economic Area (EEA), including the 27 European Union member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.

Ripple’s Readiness to Scale with Full MiCA Enforcement

Cassie Craddock, Managing Director, UK & Europe at Ripple, highlighted that the milestone demonstrates their company’s readiness to scale with the full enforcement of MiCA rules. As of July 1, the digital assets framework has transitioned from its grace period to full implementation, forcing out crypto-natives that failed to get authorization by the deadline.

“This CASP authorization means Ripple enters the post-transitional MiCA era fully compliant and ready to scale,” said Craddock. “The institutions we work with across Europe are looking to build their digital asset services alongside regulated partners, and Ripple is licensed and ready to meet that demand.”

Ripple’s achievement in Europe also solidifies its status as one of the world’s most regulated blockchain and crypto solutions providers. It adds to its more than 75 regulatory licenses across various jurisdictions. Meanwhile, it’s one of the fewer than 300 companies eligible of leveraging MiCA’s passporting regime at the moment.

Roughly 3,000 entities reportedly applied for the necessary licenses for MiCA approval across the EEA, with those that successfully navigated through its requirements accounting for barely 10% of the applicants. Tether notably opted out of participating in the new framework, citing issues with its reserve rules. On the other hand, other crypto powerhouses, such as Binance and MEXC, simply failed to fulfill the requirements.

Other Recent Developments in Ripple

The latest development comes hot on the heels of the Ripple USD’s (RLUSD) Japan debut in late June. The move likewise reinforces Ripple’s advance in the Japanese market after its long-term partner, the SBI Group, started offering deposit rewards in crypto through SBI Shinsei Bank.

SBI’s new campaign will enable customers to earn 20% of their interest payments in crypto on top of their usual yen interest earnings. The program currently supports Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and XRP.
