The Bored Ape universe just got a lot bigger with the launch of the new Otherside project from Yuga Labs. This new project introduces an all-new way to interact with NFTs, and it’s sure to shake up the world of blockchain gaming. In this article, we’ll give you a quick overview of what Otherside is all about and how it works. We’ll also take a look at some of the implications this new project has for the Bored Ape universe. So without further ado let’s dive in!
What is Otherside?
Otherside is a new project from Yuga Labs that allows users to interact with NFTs in an all-new way. With Otherside, owners can now use their NFTs to explore virtual worlds, solve puzzles, and even earn rewards. This new project is sure to change the way we think about NFTs, and it has the potential to revolutionize the world of blockchain gaming as well.
From a leaked 2022 pitch deck, the NFT space got a first look at what Yuga Labs was trying to build with Otherside. The company stated in the deck that it wants to “build something that not only expands the universe of the BAYC, but also invites the larger NFT community (and those priced out of BAYC membership) to join.”
The contents of the deck were initially rejected by some of Yuga Labs’ founders. They claimed in Discord that the deck was “an old, outdated pitch deck and hilariously a version that [we] had never seen.” However, it appears that this is exactly what the company hopes to accomplish with this project. Following a messaging change, the Otherside website stated that the project is literally aimed at creating a new universe. In particular, in the metaverse.
The Otherside project will eventually evolve into an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) linked to the BAYC ecosystem. Have you ever wondered how the Otherside world and BAYC NFTs fit together? As rapidly as these projects launch it’s a legitimate question.
What you should know
There are a few things you should know about Otherside before you dive in. First, Otherside is built on top of the Ethereum blockchain. This means that all of your Otherside interactions will be stored on the Ethereum blockchain. Second, you’ll need an ERC-20 compatible wallet to use Otherside. We recommend using MetaMask, but any ERC-20 compatible wallet will do. Finally, you’ll need some ETH to gas your Otherside transactions.
What’s next for Otherside and the Bored Ape universe?
Given Yuga Lab’s incredible success, the future of the Otherside project is likely to be the most intriguing aspect. Because Yuga and its partners have remained deliberately cryptic about all things Otherdeeds and Kodas, the possibilities of what Animoca and Improbable can bring to the table seem limitless – especially when combined with Andreessen Horowitz’s money.
Through it all, one thing remains clear: Yuga still values the Bored Ape and wider NFT communities. Yuga appears to be attempting to exude the values associated with BAYC by stating that holders of Otherdeeds will be the primary builders of Otherside.
Demos, prototype builds, in-person events, and contests will be available to those who own a plot of land. Individuals and companies can apply for a Software Development Kit (SDK) to help build characters, character skins, structures, in-game items, minigames, and more for Otherside, while Otherdeed collectors do not need any special or technical knowledge.
Collaboration is key
Besides Yuga Labs, the most visible force behind Bored Apes is now venture-capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, which led Yuga Labs’ seed round via their crypto fund. With the funding, Chris Lyons joined the board of Yuga Labs. Other notable participants include Animoca Brands, Improbable, and the ApeCoin DAO.
Animoca Brands is a game software and venture capital firm that is also assisting in the development of Otherside. Given that Animoca is also the driving force behind the widely popular metaverse game The Sandbox, the Hong Kong-based company has solidified its position as a major player in metaverse moves.
Otheside and similar projects are sure to change the way we think about NFTs, and it has the potential to revolutionize the world of blockchain gaming as well.
Otherside introduces a new dimension to the Bored Ape universe. With Otherside, players (owners) can now interact in an NFT-powered metaverse. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for the Bored Ape project, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
So there you have it! That’s our quick guide to Otherside, the new project from Yuga Labs. We’re excited to see what the future holds for Otherside, and we can’t wait to see how this new project will change the world of blockchain gaming.
