Microsoft is exploring Web3 elements like the metaverse and has recently started testing support for a crypto wallet on its Edge browser. This digital wallet, built upon the Ethereum blockchain, will allow users to store and hold Ether tokens and other Ethereum-based cryptocurrencies.
As part of its functionality, Microsoft has rolled out a trial version of this wallet, cautioning testers against putting in big amounts for now since the feature is still under development.
Social media has been abuzz with screenshots of Microsoft’s wallet test, revealing that the digital wallet appears to be non-custodial. This means users will own their private keys and have full control of their funds. After finally releasing, the new native crypto wallet included natively with Edge would rival the most used Web3 wallet addon, Metamask. Bleeping Computer, a tech portal that had the opportunity to test the wallet, reported that the wallet supports different Ethereum accounts, allowing users to switch between them as desired.
Furthermore, the wallet can be used with existing Web3 apps and includes a built-in Ethereum exchange that supports ETH, DAI, UNI, USDC, and USDT. Although the software contains strings that hint at the future inclusion of a Bitcoin wallet, this functionality is not yet available. Microsoft has not confirmed the existence of the crypto wallet.
