The long crypto winter is taking another casualty. This time, it’s the Hashdex Bitcoin (BTC) Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF).
Hashdex Ends Bitcoin ETF Trading on August 17
In an announcement on Monday, Hashdex Asset Management Ltd., a global crypto asset manager and the sponsor of Hashdex Commodities Trust, has confirmed it will shutter its Bitcoin ETF by August 17. Traded under the DEFI ticker on the NYSE Arca, the product held up approximately $14.7 million in assets under management (AUM) as of July 30. It accounts for roughly 7.35% of the company’s managed assets in products available to US investors.
Hashdex revealed that it weighed its decision based on various factors. Its considerations included AUM metrics, trading liquidity, operating costs, investor interest, and how each fund fits within the firm’s broader index-based product range. However, it didn’t elaborate on the matter further.
Fund and Bitcoin Liquidation
Hashdex advised its Bitcoin ETF holders to sell their shares on or before the product’s last trading day for immediate settlement. It noted that it will continue to accept orders for DEFI before the final trading day’s market close. After that, it will cease the asset’s trading operations and subsequently have it delisted from the NYSE Arca.
On the other hand, holders of the Bitcoin ETF after its delisting will face automatic liquidation, computed based on prevailing rates and brokerage fees. They should expect payments until August 28.
Additionally, Hashdex stated that it will liquidate the fund’s remaining Bitcoin holdings.
