- Gold price has surpassed the $4,600 mark, marking its highest in three months, amid aggressive investor positioning in the asset.
- Analysts and traders remain bullish on gold as they prepare for runaway inflation and a US debt crisis.
- SchiffGold Chair Peter Schiff dismissed Bitcoin’s “digital gold status,” seeing its fundamentals as weak against the precious metal and even speculative investments in AI.
Both the gold and crypto Fear & Greed Indices are now navigating a greedy market amid investor optimism over hard assets. The precious metal, however, has started its bullish price action early this month, with Bitcoin (BTC) only catching up last week as the White House rallied support for the pending Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act with regulators and the fintech sector while reassuring its commitment to making America the “crypto capital of the world.”

Veteran trader Peter Schiff, Chairman of SchiffGold, believes gold demand will continue to surge, driven by investors and sovereign entities hedging their wealth in anticipation of a deeper downward spiral in the US dollar’s value. On the other hand, he urged people to ditch Bitcoin in favor of gold accumulation, as he sees weak fundamentals in the premier crypto asset and believes it is solely riding the coattails of AI (artificial intelligence).
Aggressive Positioning in Gold
Live prices show gold maintaining its momentum above $4,600 per troy ounce since the weekend. It represents the precious metal’s highest valuation since around mid-May this year.

The event coincided with tokenized gold, particularly Tether Gold (XAUT), displaying the largest volume change among major assets on Binance Futures heading into Monday on Cexscan. The indicator suggests more aggressive trader positioning in the asset in anticipation of a major uptrend in price.
Analysts, including Schiff, attributed the trend to expectations of a US debt crisis and a reaction to the Federal Reserve under Chair Kevin Warsh appearing to be leaning toward a dovish approach to monetary policy. They projected the move to spur runaway inflation, driving investors and foreign governments to steer clear of US Treasuries and buy gold instead.
Schiff forecasts that gold accumulation will accelerate once the US dollar substantially weakens against its major fiat-currency counterparts. He considers the event to be the “missing piece that will complete the puzzle necessary for a full-blown US sovereign debt crisis.”
Avoiding Bitcoin
Unlike billionaire entrepreneur Ray Dalio, who advocates for both Bitcoin and gold amid the looming crisis, Schiff advised against including the premier crypto asset in any investor’s portfolio. Despite BTC’s recent climb near the $80K mark, he insists that it does not merit the status of “digital gold.”
Schiff explained that Bitcoin pumpers are only hitching a ride on the AI bandwagon, hoping investors will align BTC with the AI trade. He argued that AI isn’t bullish for BTC, as it competes with it for speculative capital.
Furthermore, the SchiffGold chairman underscored that exponential advancements in AI will eventually lead to the discovery of vulnerabilities in Bitcoin’s code, cryptography, wallets, and network that humans have previously overlooked.
“Bitcoin’s security and protocol-enforced scarcity ultimately depend on software remaining secure,” said Schiff.
