- Former X Head of Product Nikita Bier warned that AI swarms will flood websites and online forms, necessitating more advanced bot detection and human verification systems.
- His post didn’t mention any blockchains, but it indirectly points to the growing importance and role of Proof of Humanity and Proof-of-Personhood protocols.
Nikita Bier, who now lists himself as a former Head of Product on X, raised the alarm on the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) agents on the Internet. Although he didn’t make references to any blockchain, his recent post underscores the growing demand for Proof of Humanity (PoH) and Proof-of-Personhood (PoP) solutions.
A Warning on AI Agent Swarms
According to Bier, who is now a venture partner at Lightspeed, agent swarms will eventually “suffocate” websites and forms. Small companies and government websites are the most vulnerable targets in the first wave of this phenomenon.
Modern AI agents will no longer be impeded by classic web crawlers or simple spam bots, given their cognitive capacity to bypass these traditional security layers. These entities can solve CAPTCHAs, simulate human browsing habits, and dynamically parse complex web interfaces in real time, rendering traditional anti-bot defenses largely ineffective. Hence, they will define the next frontier in cybersecurity.
For Bier, bot detection and human verification will be “one of the most urgent demands” for businesses in the coming years. However, he revealed that during his tenure on X, they found a huge gap in the market for such solutions. He claimed “not a single company” offered the technology, so his team had to do it all in-house.
Bier also said in the corresponding thread that he initiated a public feeler so someone can build a solution around the underlying issue. The former X official highlighted that he’s willing to advise on the matter.
Why This Matters
Bier joins the rising concerns about AI ultimately populating the interwebs and causing harm to the economy as it gains superintelligence and a higher level of autonomy. Even the bigwigs in the AI industry, such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, have joined the call to regulate the technology to prevent losing control of it or concentrating its power in a single entity.
In this case, PoH and PoP are emerging as vital countermeasures against bad actors abusing AI. The former focuses on identifying whether one is truly human or a synthetic being, while the other centers on establishing one’s identity and humanness.
Again, Bier never mentioned any specific chain or token in his post. Nonetheless, it indirectly points to the importance of AI-focused chains with embedded verifiable compute for autonomous AI agents, such as NEAR Protocol (NEAR), Bittensor (TAO), Worldcoin (WLD), and Humanity Protocol (H).
