- The DTCC is doubling down on its tokenization plans on the Canton Network, while exploring the interoperability of its tokenized securities.
- Canton manages over $330 billion in RWA assets and dominates the RWA market with over 88% share.
The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) is advancing its goal of enabling interoperability for tokenized securities. The private company will continue to tap the Canton Network (CC) to achieve its vision.
DTCC Highlights Importance of Interoperability
According to Decrypt, Nadine Chakar, Global Head of DTCC Digital Assets, confirmed that the American financial market infrastructure company values the concept of interoperability. She believes that securities and other financial products should not be confined to a walled garden. Digital assets must be able to flow seamlessly between blockchains without technical limitations, while mitigating risks and avoiding additional expenses.
Interestingly, Chakar referred to the current messaging standards for traditional finance (TradFi) as a “relic of the past.” Hence, it must transition to an interoperable design to accommodate innovation, as developers launch a new Layer 1 (L1) chain almost every day.
Nonetheless, the DTCC official highlighted that they should employ a measured approach toward the integration to prevent flaws that could lead to potential exploits and other security issues.
Chakar echoed the previous remarks of Jennifer O’Rourke, Executive Director of Innovation Strategy at DTCC. The director warned during last year’s Atlantic Council event that the lack of a harmonized solution could lead to further fragmentation and slow adoption in the marketplace. In turn, such conditions isolate the liquidity pools of smaller distributed ledger technology (DLT) deployments.
DTCC Tapping Into Canton Network
Chakar’s statement is also a follow-up to the DTCC’s December 2025 announcement, revealing its plan to tokenize Depository Trust Company (DTC)-custodied assets on the Canton Network. Alongside Canton, it has partnered with fintech company Digital Asset Holdings to get the project underway.
The partnership will allow the minting of a subset of US Treasury securities custodied by DTC in Canton. They aim to release the Minimum Variable Product (MVP) of the initiative in a controlled production environment around the first half of 2026. The tokenization efforts will leverage DTCC’s ComposerX suite for digital asset management.
Only three years after its launch, Canton has quickly climbed the real-world asset (RWA) tokenization ladder, with the most projects launched and the highest total value. As of Tuesday morning (UTC), the network manages 7,673 tokenized RWAs worth over $330 billion per RWA.xyz data. It also explores AppChain, a permissioned Ethereum (ETH)-compatible network for apps, in the context of its tokenization goals.
Canton holds more than 88% market share in tokenized RWAs. It has significantly surpassed Ethereum’s (ETH) 644 RWA count and $13 billion value in the RWA rankings.
