- Aave is launching an institutional RWA lending market on Avalanche, with Tether’s USAT as its primary liquidity source.
- It leverages the Aave A4 architecture, which has already injected over $20 million in deposits on Avalanche.
Aave (AAVE) prepares to launch a specialized real-world asset (RWA) lending market on Avalanche (AVAX). The hot announcement came during the Avalanche Summit in New York on Wednesday, signaling the intersection of a prominent decentralized finance (DeFi) lending protocol and a high-throughput blockchain tailored for enterprises.
The Avalanche and Aave Integration
According to Avalanche, the integration will enable institutions to use tokenized financial assets as collateral to borrow stablecoins. They could do so without liquidating their digital assets and giving up potential upside or yield-bearing positions.
At the center of the new market is Tether’s USAT, a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar and aligned with the enforcement of the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act. The asset will serve as the hub’s primary source of dollar liquidity. The move marks USAT’s first major institutional use cases.
Key Features of the New Lending Market
The lending market leverages Avalanche’s high-performance chain. It can reach up to 4,500 transactions per second (TPS) across its primary framework, paving the way for near-instant settlements and transactions as low as a fraction of a cent per execution. The network also has a cross-chain feature through C-Chain that bridges liquidity from external chains into the network’s ecosystem.
Additionally, the platform is highly secured by Aave V4, an upgraded architecture for the Aave DeFi lending protocol with a unified Hub and Spoke system. It prevents capital fragmentation while isolating risk parameters to ensure the seamless integration of institutional assets into decentralized liquidity pools.
Since its launch two months ago, Aave V4 has already contributed to more than $20 million in deposits on Avalanche. The new RWA Hub expands its infrastructure into tokenized financial markets, which now reflects a $709.5 billion in total value per RWA.xyz.
Avalanche accounts for more than $13 billion of the value flowing across RWA tokens, consisting of stablecoins as well as tokenized US Treasury funds, credit, stocks, active strategies, and more.
Aave’s Advance in RWAs
Aave Founder and CEO Stani Kulechov believes institutional demand is becoming one of DeFi’s largest sources of borrowing activity. This explains why the protocol is focusing its next growth phase beyond crypto and into tokenized RWAs.
“Institutions come with size, so that’s where a lot of the demand will come,” said Kulechov during the Avalanche Summit in New York. “Tokenization and DeFi are not a technological challenge anymore. I think it’s a go-to-market challenge.”
The Aave boss projects that all financial activities will eventually plug into DeFi in the “next couple of decades.”
